Dryer Vent Cleaning in Studio City, CA

Why does my dryer take two cycles in Studio City?
Usually the duct, not the dryer. In the flats south and north of Ventura Blvd, the housing is 1930s–50s single-story Spanish, traditional, and postwar ranch. Laundry sits on a rear service porch or in the garage. The vent run is short, through a stucco wall, and often still 4-inch galvanized with a foil transition behind the unit. That foil crushes when the dryer gets pushed back. Short run, big restriction.
Hillside streets toward Mulholland and Laurel Canyon are a different job. Split-level and post-and-beam homes put the laundry on a lower level. The duct then runs long, or climbs and terminates on the roof. Those need rooftop access and a brush fed the full length, not a quick blow-out from inside.
Dingbat apartments along the boulevard have ground-floor laundry rooms, several dryers, shared short runs. One clogged cap can back up a neighbor's machine.
Valley heat amplifies dust, so lint arrives already mixed with grit. Canyon winds and ash events load the exterior wall cap until the damper barely swings. Go outside while the dryer runs. Put your hand at the cap. Weak or no airflow means the problem is the duct, and a new dryer will not fix it.

My laundry is in the garage of a 1940s house south of Ventura — why does the dryer take two cycles to finish?
On the older flats around here, the run from the dryer to the wall cap is usually short, which people assume means it can't be the vent. It still is, most of the time. These houses commonly have 4-inch galvanized pipe with a foil transition hose behind the machine, and that ribbed foil catches lint at every corrugation. Add a crushed or kinked section where the dryer got pushed back against the stucco wall, and airflow drops enough to double your drying time even on a run only a few feet long. We check the transition first, then the rigid pipe and the exterior cap.
Our place is on a hillside street up toward Mulholland and the laundry is on the lower level — is that a harder job?
It takes longer, yes. On the split-levels and post-and-beam homes on the slopes, the laundry often sits well below the termination point, so the duct climbs a long way and sometimes exits through the roof instead of a side wall. Long vertical runs collect lint at the elbows and at the top, where it packs against the cap. Roof terminations also mean we're working from above as well as at the appliance, so plan on us being there a while longer than a flat-lot job down on the boulevard side. We'd rather spend the extra time than clean half a duct.
